Public Bank Bhd reported RM1.77 billion in net profit for the quarter to Sept 30, 2026, down 3.8% year-on-year, according to its bourse filing. The bank attributed the decline mainly to higher impairment allowances for loans and financing.

Profit compared with RM1.84 billion a year earlier, while revenue reached RM7.74 billion, a 4.4% increase from RM7.42 billion. Earnings per share fell to 9.13 sen from 9.54 sen.

The bank said normalising credit charges pushed impairment allowances up by RM116.4 million. Investment income fell RM90.8 million, while other operating expenses rose RM47 million, also weighing on earnings. However, net interest income reached RM2.44 billion, up 2.9% from RM2.37 billion.

For 9MFY2026, Public Bank recorded a largely unchanged net profit of RM5.35 billion. Revenue for the period came to RM22.67 billion, against RM22.08 billion a year earlier.

Annualised growth in total loans was 6.2%, while deposits grew 4.1% over 9MFY2026. At end-September, the bank reported a 0.55% gross impaired loans ratio. Its gross loans to funds and equity ratio was 84.7%.

At the midday trading break, Public Bank shares were at RM4.89, down seven sen or 1.41%, giving the group a market value of RM94.92 billion.
