Corrections and withdrawals

How to report a mistake, and what we do when a story is wrong.

If a BursaKL story is wrong, tell us. We correct confirmed mistakes and withdraw stories that should not have been published.

Report a mistake

What to include in your report

  • The address (URL) of the story.
  • The sentence or number that is wrong.
  • What it should say.
  • A link to a source that shows the right fact, if you have one.
  • An email address, so we can ask a question if we need to.

What we do with your report

  1. We compare the story with the source it links to, and with any evidence you send.
  2. If the story does not match its source, we fix the story. The page then shows when it was last updated.
  3. If the source itself is wrong or changed, we say so in the story, or withdraw it if it can no longer be relied on.
  4. If the story is right, we leave it as it is.

Withdrawn stories

A withdrawn story keeps its web address. The address shows a notice that the story was withdrawn and answers with HTTP status 410, so search engines drop it. Nobody can publish a different story at the same address.

Publishers: ask us to remove a story

If you publish the source of a BursaKL story and you want us to remove it, tell us through the same form and name the story. We answer within 24 hours, and we withdraw the story if you ask.

Mistakes in the original source

Stories repeat what their source says. If the mistake is in the original, the organisation that published it is the one that can correct it. Tell us as well, and we will update our story once the source is fixed.
