How the BursaKL Newsdesk finds, writes, checks and corrects its stories.
This page explains how the BursaKL Newsdesk finds, writes, checks and corrects its stories. We wrote it so that readers know what they are reading.
How stories are made
Every story starts from a report, an announcement or a press release that someone else has already published. The BursaKL editorial team chooses the sources and sets the rules that every story follows.
Names on stories
Each story carries the name of a member of the BursaKL editorial team, who answers for it. You can meet the team on the our team page.
Team members read published stories after they go live and take down any that should not stay online.
How the newsdesk writes its stories
The newsdesk works from material that someone else has already published. It writes its own short account of facts that other publishers have already reported. It does not copy the source's wording. It skips pages behind a paywall and pages that ask crawlers to stay away. If a publisher asks us to remove a story or an image, we remove it.
Checks before publishing
Before a story is published, its text is compared with the source text. The checks cover:
- numbers, amounts, percentages, dates and units;
- names of people, companies, agencies, places and job titles;
- quotes, which must appear word for word in the source and stay short;
- claims, causes and forecasts, which must be stated in the source;
- tone, so that a story does not promote a company or give investment advice.
A story that fails any check is not published. Checks reduce mistakes but cannot remove them. If you find a mistake, please tell us.
What the newsdesk publishes and what it leaves out
The newsdesk writes stories from news reports, company announcements and press releases. It does not publish opinion, commentary, analysis pieces or features. Stories on sensitive topics are held back until a team member has read them. It also skips duplicates, items that are too old, and items that would copy too much of the source wording.
Stories are not investment advice. Prices, forecasts and company plans are reported as the source states them.
Images
Most stories show the featured image of the publisher whose report we used. When that image cannot be used, the story shows an illustration card made by BursaKL. The card is not a photo of the event.
If an image should not appear on this site, tell us on the contact page. We remove it.
How to ask for a correction
Use the contact page and choose “Correction request”. Include the address of the story, what is wrong and, if you can, a link that shows the right fact. The corrections page explains what happens next.
Withdrawn stories
If a story should not have been published, or cannot be fixed, we withdraw it. A withdrawn story keeps its web address, so an old link never leads to a different story. The address shows a notice that the story was withdrawn and answers with HTTP status 410, which tells search engines that the page is gone for good.
Advertising
Advertising, where it appears, is separate from stories and does not change what the newsdesk writes.
