Lianson Fleet Group Bhd has added a heavy-lift vessel to its fleet through an Oct 28 purchase by its wholly owned subsidiary, Icon Samudera (L) Inc. The company said the acquisition opens a new operating segment alongside its vessel ownership, chartering and offshore support businesses.

An unrelated seller incorporated in Panama sold the vessel, which will be renamed LFG Hercules. Its main crane can lift 4,000 tonnes, and it is equipped with Dynamic Positioning Class 2 (DP2) capabilities. Malaysian registration is planned at Port Klang.

The vessel measures 200.8m long, with a breadth of 48m and depth of 16m, and has room for up to 160 passengers. Lianson said the addition would allow it to seek bigger offshore and marine jobs with greater technical requirements.

In its bourse filing, the group said it expects more chartering opportunities locally and regionally, pointing to a limited supply of similar vessels and anticipated demand for specialised services. It also identified potential work in dismantling ageing offshore oil and gas infrastructure in Southeast Asia and in offshore renewable energy, including wind turbine installation.

Lianson expects charter income from the vessel to support earnings in the financial year ending Dec 31, 2026 and subsequent years. The group currently operates and owns 12 OSVs and 41 marine transportation assets.
