IJM Corporation Bhd has appointed Datuk Johan Idris to its board as an independent non-executive director and chairman, effective Oct 5. The construction and property conglomerate named him as successor to Tan Sri Krishnan Tan, who has retired.

Johan, 60, is the non-executive chairman of KPMG Malaysia. In its filing to the stock exchange, IJM said his experience across finance, audit and strategic advisory spans over 34 years globally.

Datuk Lee Teck Yuen had taken on the interim chairmanship at the Aug 27 annual general meeting while the board worked to complete its succession arrangements. He remains on the board as a non-executive director.

At KPMG Malaysia, Johan held the managing partner and country senior partner positions from January 2014 to December 2024, having led its audit practice from 2011 to 2013. His previous roles also include membership of the KPMG Global Council and ASPAC Board, and the presidency of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) from 2013 to 2015.

His current appointments include chairmanship of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and the independent non-executive chairmanship at Maxis Bhd. He also serves on the board of KLCC Stapled Group as an independent non-executive director.

At the Oct 5 close, IJM shares stood at RM2.73, down eight sen or 2.85%. The group’s market capitalisation was RM10 billion.
