Bus Cap signs deal to explore Malaysian EV charging venture
The arrangement with Starcharge Energy includes possible local assembly of charging equipment and is non-binding apart from certain provisions.

Bus Cap Bhd is looking to move beyond vehicle manufacturing through an agreement with Starcharge Energy Sdn Bhd to examine opportunities in Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) charging sector. In a Bursa Malaysia filing, the bus manufacturer said the companies would pursue discussions on a definitive agreement.
The proposed business would encompass infrastructure for charging stations and services covering installation, maintenance and technical support. Assembly of charging equipment in Malaysia is also under consideration.
Bus Cap said the intended customer base extends beyond electric buses to passenger vehicles and commercial fleets. Potential locations include public charging stations, workplaces and properties used for residential or commercial purposes.
Executive director Bernard Ng Chong Yan said adding charging and fleet-support services to vehicle manufacturing would give the group a wider role in customers’ transport operations and help generate recurring service revenue. Operators also require dependable charging, maintenance support and practical management of depot power costs, he said.
Starcharge’s parent is StarCharge Digital Energy Co Ltd. The parent’s group operates in more than 70 countries and regions, with global EV charger deliveries reaching up to two million.
In August, Bus Cap signed a memorandum of understanding with BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd to consider developing new-energy commercial vehicles assembled locally. Ng said the Starcharge tie-up could lead to exploration of battery storage, solar energy and solutions for smart energy management.
