Medicine, Faith, and Purpose: Dr. Walter Grady's 'The Healing Touch' at BIBF 2026

Vancouver, British Columbia Sep 14, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - Displayed throughout the five-day fair at Booth 5A.B14, the memoir formed part of Explora Books's international showcase of independent authors during the event's 40th-anniversary edition.

Written by an orthopedic surgeon and ordained minister whose career spanned four decades, The Healing Touch reflects on the intersection of medicine, faith, and compassionate care, bringing an international publishing audience one physician's lifelong journey of healing.

BIBF 2026 marked the fair's 40th anniversary and drew over 1,700 exhibitors from 82 countries and regions under the theme "Together for a Shared Future of Publishing." Within China's evolving nonfiction market, the fair also reflected readers' growing interest in personal well-being and purpose. WeChat's 2026 World Book Day Reading Report identified emotional well-being as one of the fastest-growing nonfiction categories, alongside financial psychology and artificial intelligence. The Healing Touch, centered on one man's search for purpose across two demanding vocations, resonated with that growing interest, offering readers a memoir concerned less with professional achievement than with what sustains a person through decades of caring for others.

Published by Fulton Books in December 2025, The Healing Touch traces Dr. Grady's parallel careers as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and an ordained itinerant elder and minister. Over four decades in medicine, he specialized in orthopedic surgery, including hand, microvascular, and upper-extremity procedures, while also serving patients through family medicine and health-policy leadership. Among the early African American DO orthopedic surgeons in the United States, his professional path reflects perseverance, service, and a commitment to expanding opportunities within the field.

Drawing on decades of medical practice, the memoir explores how professional experience shaped Dr. Grady's understanding of healing beyond the operating room. Reflections on illness, caregiving, loss, and recovery--including Alzheimer's disease, prostate cancer, and the emotional weights carried by patients and their families--illustrate how clinical encounters became lessons in compassion, resilience, and faith.

Organized as a series of reflections rather than a conventional autobiography, the memoir brings together lessons drawn from both operating rooms and pulpits. Themes of unconditional love, forgiveness, and service recur throughout as Dr. Grady describes medicine and ministry as expressions of a single vocation grounded in faith. He has said the book was written to reach readers' spiritual core, offering what he calls living evidence of grace expressed through everyday life. That perspective made the memoir especially relevant to faith-based readers, healthcare professionals, and those interested in the medical humanities who visited Explora Books's booth during the fair.

The Healing Touch: An Orthopedic Surgeon and Ordained Minister's Journey of Grace and Purpose is available through Amazon and other major online bookstores.
