Zukri Samat appointed BSN chairman as Awang Adek’s term ends

The appointment takes effect on Oct 12. Zukri previously led Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd and chaired Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia.

Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) has named Datuk Seri Zukri Samat as its next chairman, effective Oct 12. In a statement, the bank said Datuk Seri Awang Adek Hussin would leave the position when his term ends.

Zukri was previously managing director at Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd. His most recent role was chairing Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia, a position he held from November 2023 to October 2025.

Zukri said he looked forward to collaborating with BSN’s board and management on financial inclusion, digital transformation and sustainability, while maintaining governance standards. His earlier positions included chief executive officer at Lembaga Tabung Haji, a seat on the Inland Revenue Board and managing director at Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd.

BSN acknowledged Awang Adek’s service, which began in July 2024. His previous chairmanships included the Securities Commission of Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Perbadanan Nasional Bhd.

Awang Adek also served as a director at Permodalan Nasional Bhd. During 17 years at Bank Negara Malaysia, he advanced to assistant governor.
