Payment services through Zetrix AI Bhd and its subsidiary MyEG were suspended from Oct 5 after collections owed to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) went unpaid, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said. He put the arrears for May to September at some RM314 million.

Speaking at a press conference, Loke said Zetrix had provided a RM231 million cheque in September to cover the amount outstanding then. However, when it was credited on Sept 30, the bank did not process it because the company had instructed it not to do so, he said.

Loke said the Ministry of Transport and JPJ had convened four stakeholder engagement sessions and sent 35 notices setting payment deadlines. The arrears remained unpaid despite those efforts.

The government would continue seeking payment, he said. The transport ministry would consult the Ministry of Finance and other agencies about further measures, including possible civil action.

Loke said settling the arrears would be required before lifting the suspension could be considered. Additional conditions would apply even after full payment, including requiring funds to go straight into the government's account. He also said the contract contained no compensation clause for government termination.

Zetrix, formerly MyEG Services Bhd, has collected JPJ payments since 2000, with its latest three-year contract starting in May 2023. Other collection agents remain available, including Pos Malaysia Bhd, which serves rural areas. Loke said his latest checks found no arrears owed by other agents.
