Youth BNPL transactions total RM5.4 billion in 1H2026
People aged 30 and below accounted for 37.9% of Malaysia’s BNPL transactions and 36.7% of their value, according to the Ministry of Finance.

Malaysia’s young consumers made 65.9 million transactions using buy now, pay later (BNPL) services in 1H2026, with a combined value of RM5.4 billion. The Ministry of Finance (MOF) reported the figures for people aged 30 and below in a written parliamentary response.
Across all age groups, BNPL transactions numbered 173.9 million over the period and were worth RM14.7 billion, the ministry said. Young consumers represented 37.9% of the transaction count and 36.7% of the value.
At June 30, this age group had RM2.4 billion in outstanding BNPL financing. Of that balance, RM96.8 million was non-performing financing, equivalent to 4.0%, according to MOF.
The figures were provided in response to Datuk Dr Alias Razak (Perikatan Nasional-Kuala Nerus). His question concerned the Consumer Credit Commission’s measures to prevent excessive BNPL indebtedness among young people, including how comprehensively consumers’ credit commitments are assessed.
