Malaysia’s launch of the third-generation Mazda CX-5 brings a single 2.5G High option priced at RM171,510.40, including on-the-road costs but excluding insurance. Bermaz Motor had indicated an estimated RM170,000 price when the SUV was previewed at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show.

The Japan-built model will share the market with the locally assembled second-generation CX-5. The new version measures 4,690 mm in length, with width at 1,860 mm and height at 1,695 mm. Its 2,815 mm wheelbase represents an increase of 115 mm over its predecessor.

For Malaysia, the SUV retains a petrol-only Skyactiv G 2.5 powertrain, unlike the mild hybrid versions available in Japan and the Philippines. The naturally-aspirated 2.5 litre engine delivers 185 hp at an engine speed of 6,000 rpm; torque reaches 257 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Front-wheel drive is paired with Mazda’s six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic gearbox.

A 12.9-inch touchscreen handles most vehicle functions and offers wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Cabin equipment also includes a Bose sound system with 12 speakers, a digital instrument display measuring 10.25-inch, ventilated front seats with power adjustment and a head-up display.

Seven airbags and a 360-degree monitor are standard. Driver assistance features include blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist and autonomous emergency braking at the front and rear. Warranty coverage from the manufacturer is five-year/100,000-km. A separate free service package includes labour, parts and lubricants.
