Sunway Group launches RM200 million performing arts venue
The Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre includes a 1,200-seat Grand Theatre, with about RM30 million allocated to sound and acoustics technology.

Sunway Group has opened the Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre (JCPAC), developed at a cost of RM200 million, within Sunway Square in Selangor’s Sunway City Kuala Lumpur. The group announced the launch in a statement dated Oct 19.
Founder and chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah said about RM30 million of the development cost went towards sound and acoustics technology. He said the investment reflected the group’s view that performing arts should be supported alongside education and research, while giving Malaysian artists opportunities to develop and collaborate with international productions.
According to the group, the 1,200-seat Grand Theatre is Malaysia’s first venue to combine L-Acoustics L-ISA immersive sound with Ambiance active acoustics. It has an orchestra pit and a full-sized fly tower. A separate experimental venue, The Studio, can accommodate up to 150 people, offering rearrangeable seating and its own audio, lighting and backstage facilities.
JCPAC sits within the RM1.8 billion Sunway Square development, which also includes two corporate towers, Sunway Square Mall and an enlarged Sunway University campus accommodating the Sunway Business School and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
