Penang’s Silicon Island had 202.3 hectares of reclaimed land by October 2026, Datuk Seri Farizan Darus said. Farizan, who chairs Silicon Island Development and is chief executive officer of Penang Infrastructure Corporation Sdn Bhd, said reclamation started in September 2023.

Farizan also reported smooth progress on Pan Island Link 2A, a RM420 million contract. The initial section of its marine bridge is targeted to open by December 2028, giving Silicon Island a direct link to Jalan Permatang Damar Laut. The target for completing the entire project is June 2029.

Separately, Silicon Island Development Sdn Bhd announced that investors, strategic partners, government agencies and local communities can visit the Silicon Island Experience Centre for information about the 931-hectare development. Construction of the centre took four months and cost RM2.5 million.

An interactive LED scale model inside the 2,500-square-foot centre illustrates planned features such as transit corridors, commercial precincts and a Green Tech Park spanning 283-hectare. It also shows cycling and pedestrian routes covering more than 110 kilometres.

In a Facebook post, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Silicon Island was intended to support Penang’s semiconductor industry and attract investment in advanced technology, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven innovation, and research and development. He said the project was expected to provide quality jobs, develop local talent and benefit nearby communities, while prioritising sustainability.
