Investment approvals in Johor’s Segamat district cover 19 projects valued at RM279.1 million, with potential employment of 680, according to the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI). Locations involved are Buluh Kasap, Chaah, Jementah, Segamat Town and Labis.

In its Oct 15 written parliamentary reply, MITI separately detailed RM239.4 million in approved investment for Sekijang. Seventeen projects in the parliamentary constituency could generate 612 jobs. Sekijang encompasses the state constituencies of Pemanis and Kemelah.

MITI said the approvals span metal fabrication, food and wood-based products, alongside supporting industries. Progress differs across the projects: operations have started at some, while others remain under implementation or are having equipment and machinery installed.

The ministry was answering Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa (PH-Sekijang), whose questions covered investment approvals and realisation, values, sectors, employment potential and plans for attracting further investment.

To draw additional investment and stimulate local economic activity, MITI said it would continue collaborating with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and partners in Johor. These include the state government, Invest Johor, technical agencies, local authorities and developers of industrial parks.
