School bus owners and operators have until Oct 30 to submit updated particulars for their drivers to facilitate RM1,000 in special financial assistance, according to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD). Disbursement will begin on Oct 22 in stages.

In its Oct 16 statement, APAD directed operators to its official portal for the updates. Submissions must include drivers’ current names, addresses and telephone numbers, together with valid driving licences, public service vehicle (PSV) licences and bank account details.

Eligibility checks will use records held by APAD alongside databases of the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) and Road Transport Department (JPJ). Licence validity will also be verified.

APAD said it had discussed verification and payment procedures with the Federation of Malaysian School Bus Associations and the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor School Bus Operators Association. The agency linked the update exercise to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call to finish payments before Deepavali.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook had earlier put the expected number of recipients at about 53,000 across three groups: taxi drivers, hire car drivers and school bus drivers. Each is expected to receive RM1,000 as a one-off payment before Deepavali.
