Sarawak will receive RM545 million for work covering 350 locations in the initial stage of Jendela 2, according to Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil. The rollout forms part of the second phase of the National Digital Network Plan.

Fahmi said six clusters were involved and the implementing companies had received letters of acceptance (LOAs). Work would begin after the companies signed them, with equipment expected to be transported to tower construction sites within the next few months.

He was speaking to reporters after witnessing a memorandum of understanding signing between the Sarawak government and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

On the Madani submarine cable (Salam) project, Fahmi said at least three landing points would be in Sarawak, out of 10 nationwide. Bintulu had been identified as a key location to support Bintulu Port's development and nearby areas.

The Communications Ministry said in a written parliamentary reply that Salam was expected to start in the first quarter of 2027, with completion anticipated by the fourth quarter of 2029. MCMC is evaluating submissions received after invitation documents were issued.

According to the ministry, the planned high-capacity domestic cable system is intended to improve connectivity linking Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. It would incorporate resilient infrastructure, alternative network routes and backup capabilities.
