Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg welcomed the state's increased federal allocation of RM16.2 billion under the 2027 budget. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the funding on Oct 9 during his budget presentation.

The allocation for Sarawak compares with RM15.1 billion under the 2026 Budget. Anwar also announced RM18.7 billion for Sabah for 2027, against the RM17.6 billion it received under the previous budget.

Abang Johari expressed his appreciation at Padang Merdeka in Kuching on Oct 10, during a parade and assembly marking the 80th birthday of Sarawak's Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. He also spoke about Wan Junaidi's experience in security, law and administration.

About 5,000 participants joined the parade, which involved 107 contingents grouped into seven categories. Participants represented educational institutions, government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), statutory bodies and the private sector. The birthday celebrations run from Oct 8 to Oct 11, with events including an awards investiture ceremony, thanksgiving ceremonies, a banquet and a tea reception.
