The Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia (Samenta) welcomed Budget 2027, pointing to RM57 billion in financing and guarantees and a one-percentage-point cut in SMEs’ corporate income tax rates. Its national president Datuk William Ng said the measures would help MSMEs manage cash flow pressures and operating costs.

When presenting the budget on Oct 9, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that MSME loan facilities and financing guarantees would rise from RM50 billion to RM57 billion in 2027. He also announced the tax reduction.

The minimum wage will increase to RM2,000 from RM1,700 effective June 2027. MSMEs with annual sales below RM50 million will not have to implement the revised rate, giving them time to adjust their business models.

In a statement, Ng urged faster disbursement of financing, support for digital automation and help accessing export markets, while keeping administrative hurdles to a minimum. He said Samenta would work with Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong and his ministry on implementing the initiatives.

Ng also welcomed Sim’s designation of 2027 as “Malaysia MSME Year” and backed the ministry’s ABCD Framework, which he said would help domestic small businesses modernise, enter higher-value supply chains and compete regionally.
