Redtone Digital Bhd has named Datuk Seri Robin Tan Yeong Ching as its executive deputy chairman. In a Bursa Malaysia filing on Oct 23, the telecommunications company said he would replace Syed Ali Shahul Hammed, whose departure was to pursue other commitments.

Redtone Digital shares ended Friday at 34 sen, gaining half a sen or 1.5%. The closing price valued the company at RM266 million.

Tan, 52, directly owns 50,000 Redtone Digital shares. His father, Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, founded Berjaya Group, whose 34.27% holding makes it the company’s largest shareholder. Tan is his eldest son. A further 17.44% stake is held by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

Tan joined Berjaya Group Bhd in 1995 and became Berjaya Corp Bhd’s CEO in 2011. He took on the chairman and CEO roles in 2012, later holding other leadership posts before resigning in 2023.

His current positions include chairman and non-independent executive director at Sports Toto Bhd, and deputy chairman and non-independent non-executive director at Berjaya Property Bhd. He is also a non-independent non-executive director at Atlan Holdings Bhd, chairs Berjaya Media Bhd and is an executive director at STM Lottery Sdn Bhd.
