A proposed artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in Perak is being explored by Global Vision Lab Sdn Bhd (GVL) and the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk). The project remains at the preliminary assessment stage, with neither its full scope nor power capacity determined.

Documents signed so far comprise a letter of consent and a non-disclosure agreement, allowing the parties to share information and conduct initial assessments. The proposal envisages capacity exceeding 100MW to serve demand in Malaysia and the region for AI computing, high-performance computing and applications using graphics processing units.

GVL will lead planning and assessment work, while PKNPk will coordinate stakeholders at state level. Itman Service Center (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Future Quantum Co Ltd have been named as project partners, although their roles remain undecided.

The assessment will examine whether sites are suitable, alongside electricity availability, cooling, network connections and other infrastructure needs.

PKNPk chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq said the initiative supported Perak Sejahtera 2030 and could help position the state as a destination for high-technology digital infrastructure.
