Petros and Höegh Evi agree to jointly develop Kuching LNG terminal
The project targets first gas by end of 2029 and would establish Sarawak’s first LNG regasification facility, according to Petros.

Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) said it has signed a joint development agreement with Höegh Evi for an LNG terminal in Kuching. The proposed facility forms part of the Kuching Low-Carbon Hub (KLCH), with first gas targeted for end of 2029.
The agreement covers joint ownership and operation as well as development. Planned infrastructure includes a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), facilities for mooring and onshore receiving, and pipelines running subsea and onshore.
According to Petros, the terminal would be Sarawak’s first facility for LNG regasification. It is intended to deliver gas directly to Kuching and nearby areas, supporting power generation and industrial development while addressing rising energy demand.
Petros, the KLCH master developer, said the partnership draws on Höegh Evi’s experience with FSRUs and maritime energy infrastructure. The partners are also assessing whether delivery can be brought forward, taking energy demand and project readiness into account.
Potential additional services include distribution of LNG on a small scale, loading for trucks, bunkering, storage and reloading, Petros said. The design would also allow gas supplies to be extended beyond Kuching to other areas of Sarawak.
