Federal approval has been granted for 280 development projects in Penang costing RM33.22 billion under the 2027 Second Rolling Plan (RP2) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), according to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow said RM2.68 billion had been allocated for implementation in 2027. Of the approved projects, 44 are new and 236 are ongoing. The new projects account for RM578.29 million in combined costs, with an allocation of RM63.71 million for 2027.

Four of the new approvals were priority projects that the state government submitted in February, he said. Together, they cost RM96.95 million and have been allocated RM2.2 million for 2027. They comprise:

  • The Sungai Keluang Ubi Flood Mitigation Scheme, located in Central Seberang Perai.
  • Upgrading Jalan Bukit Tambun FT149 between the Jalan Persekutuan FT001 junction and the Bukit Tambun Selatan Toll junction in Simpang Ampat, South Seberang Perai.
  • Phase 2 of the Sungai Perai Flood Mitigation Scheme, located in Central Seberang Perai.
  • Mapping and development work on Penang's groundwater resources.

Chow also said a separate state priority initiative, the Penang STEM Talent Blueprint, had received approval earlier through the First Rolling Plan (RP1) of the 13MP. Its cost is RM12.3 million.
