PEN SJ Electronics Sdn Bhd has committed over US$70 million (RM286.1 million) to a Penang facility making materials for advanced packaging and solutions for thermal management, according to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. The investment is expected to generate more than 1,000 jobs.

Chow said PEN SJ had signed an agreement to lease a facility from the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) at Batu Kawan Industrial Park 3 (BKIP3). Production will begin with thermal interface materials (TIM), followed by integrated heat spreaders in a second phase, serving domestic and global customers.

SJ Electronics founder Dr Fay Hua said the company plans to recruit more than 1,000 staff for the Penang operations. Many of the roles will be for engineers involved in key technologies.

Hua said its technology and materials work focuses on advanced semiconductor packaging, including 2.5D and 3D packaging. She linked growing demand for materials that manage semiconductor heat to advances in artificial intelligence (AI).

The company also plans partnerships with local higher education institutions for internships and graduate training to develop industry talent, particularly engineers. Chow said the investment would strengthen Penang’s electrical and electronics (E&E) ecosystem, especially semiconductor packaging and thermal management.
