Melaka gas turbine training centre seeks international role
CGNEI also wants its gas turbine committee to link supply-chain businesses in China, Malaysia and other Asian markets.

The Gas Turbine Skills Training Centre in Melaka plans to broaden its international role by developing industry talent, facilitating technical exchanges and supporting cooperation, CGN Energy International Holdings Co Ltd (CGNEI) chairman Zhang Chaoqun said.
At the CGNEI Gas Turbine Power Generation Committee 2026 Work Conference on Nov 4 in Melaka, Zhang outlined two channels for collaboration with partners. Alongside the centre at the Edra Melaka Power Plant, the company intends to use its committee to connect gas turbine suppliers, particularly businesses from China and Malaysia, as well as elsewhere in East and Southeast Asia.
Zhang said the centre could support ongoing skills development for professionals across the industry. He described CGNEI’s experience with gas turbine projects in Malaysia, Bangladesh and South Korea as a basis for cooperation, with capabilities spanning investment, construction, operations and decommissioning.
He said electricity systems needed more flexible and reliable generation as they incorporated greater amounts of solar and wind power. He also linked investment in data centres to advances in artificial intelligence and the digital economy, saying gas turbines were playing a growing role in meeting the computing industry’s electricity needs.
