Malaysia recorded vehicle sales of 69,609 units in September, down 2.5% from August’s 71,428 units, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). The association linked the decline to consumers delaying purchases ahead of Budget 2027.

Despite the monthly slowdown, MAA expects an October sales recovery supported by year-end promotions. Combined passenger and commercial vehicle sales for the nine months reached 602,633 units, a 4% increase against 579,336 a year earlier.

Passenger vehicle sales in September rose 22% year on year to 64,835 units from 53,352. The segment’s nine-month sales totalled 564,919 units, up 5% against the previous year’s 536,122.

Commercial vehicle sales moved in the opposite direction, falling 7% year on year to 4,774 units in September from 5,138 units.

Production was also mixed across the two segments. Passenger vehicle output increased 12% to 61,134 units in September from 54,738 a year earlier, while commercial vehicle output dropped 9% to 3,348 units from 3,675, MAA’s figures showed.
