Malaysia and Egypt to widen trade and investment ties
Bilateral trade reached RM3.49 billion (US$0.87 billion) from January to August 2026, an increase of 74.7 per cent.

Malaysia and Egypt will pursue closer cooperation on investment, trade and air links through a forthcoming Joint Commission meeting, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. The meeting is scheduled for the first quarter and will also consider additional areas of economic cooperation.
Speaking alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at a joint press conference during his two-day state visit to Malaysia, Anwar said both foreign ministers had agreed to the meeting. He noted that the 74.7 per cent rise in bilateral trade came from a low base and that there was scope to expand further.
Anwar identified pharmaceuticals, agriculture, semiconductors and electrical and electronics (E&E) as sectors with potential for cooperation. He said Malaysia was considering emerging economies, including BRICS countries, as pharmaceutical suppliers, and Egypt could help meet its requirements.
More regular flights would help support tourism as well as trade and investment, Anwar said. He also said closer ties with Egypt could give Malaysia opportunities to broaden its economic presence in the Arab world and Africa.
Egypt ranked as Malaysia’s seventh-largest African trading partner in 2025. Trade between them totalled RM3.08 billion (US$0.72 billion), comprising Malaysian exports worth RM2.55 billion (US$0.60 billion) and imports of RM530 million (US$0.12 billion).
