A cybersecurity incident involving reservation-technology provider Amadeus may have affected information belonging to some Malaysia Airlines customers, the carrier said. Information processed from August 2023 to September was potentially affected, according to the airline.

The carrier said its own IT systems had not suffered a breach. It also reported finding no evidence of access to financial information, while investigations with Amadeus and other relevant parties continued to establish the incident's impact.

Amadeus acknowledged becoming aware of a vulnerability affecting an environment for displaying travel bookings. The provider did not answer a question seeking the number of customers affected.

Cathay Pacific Airways, Japan Airlines and South Korea's Asiana Airlines have also reported customer data being compromised. Cathay Pacific said the breach involved data for 53,000 bookings; Japan Airlines reported an impact on 92,000 customers.

Malaysia Airlines advised customers to be alert to suspicious messages or unsolicited contact, particularly requests to disclose personal or financial details.
