KTMB posts RM96 million freight revenue as cargo volumes rise
Revenue increased 10% in 9M 2026, while cargo tonnage grew 16% and container movements gained 6%.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) said its freight business generated RM96 million during 9M 2026, representing a 10% increase over the corresponding period a year earlier.
Cargo carried reached 1.3 million tonnes, an increase of 16%, while container traffic climbed 6% to 173,844 twenty-foot equivalent units. The operator said these results pointed to growing demand for rail freight services.
Alongside the results, KTMB said it was progressing its rolling stock strategy (RSS) to address the needs of its ageing fleet. The initiative covers rehabilitation, replacement and improvements to critical assets, with a significant share of its rolling stock having served for many years.
According to KTMB, RSS is intended to improve the use and availability of existing assets, maintain dependable freight operations and gradually increase cargo capacity. It said greater operational flexibility would help it deploy its fleet more effectively and provide more consistent services to manufacturers, exporters, port operators and logistics providers.
KTMB also said the strategy supports the government's national road-to-rail agenda and aims to improve its readiness to meet increasing regional demand for rail freight.
