Evolvelectric Motors Sdn Bhd has agreed with FT Assembly Sdn Bhd to assemble JAC T9 pickups in Malaysia, with production expected from November 2026. The automotive company said estimated annual capacity for the programme’s first year would be 3,000 units.

The agreement covers three variants: Diesel, petrol plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV). Evolvelectric Motors distributes JAC Motors pickups locally, while FT Assembly is a wholly owned subsidiary of Feytech Holdings Bhd.

Feytech’s manufacturing site in Kulim, Kedah, will handle assembly through a phased completely knocked down (CKD) programme. The petrol PHEV is scheduled to come first, ahead of the Diesel and BEV variants. The company targets January 2027 for the start of BEV assembly.

The company said the T9 PHEV and BEV would be Malaysia’s first pickups of those types to be assembled locally. Evolvelectric Motors chief executive officer Lau Yit Mun said JAC was considering opportunities for Malaysian pickup exports if conditions were favourable.

Feytech CEO and executive director Connie Go said the deal would broaden the company’s capabilities to include assembly of light commercial vehicles. She also identified potential future opportunities in automotive modules and other manufacturing activities.
