Government approves RM150 million Postal Fund
The fund is expected to begin operating in the first quarter of 2027, supporting postal services in rural, remote and island communities.

Malaysia’s government has approved the creation of a Postal Fund, committing RM150 million initially to help maintain postal services for rural, remote and island communities, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
Operations are expected to start in the first quarter of 2027. Fahmi said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would administer the fund to support Universal Service Obligation (USO) services, particularly the delivery of letters where connectivity is limited.
Speaking after officiating the World Post Day celebration, Fahmi said officials would review whether the fund could also cover goods delivery costs for locations far from urban centres. He said provisions for the fund had been included in the Postal Services Act since 2012.
The MCMC and Ministry of Communications would also consider measures to sustain postal and courier services as technology, e-commerce and the digital economy develop. Fahmi said changes to industry policies, legislation and operations were needed, alongside appropriate pay and compensation to protect workers’ welfare.
The MCMC has begun engaging e-commerce service providers, he added. Discussions would subsequently involve major courier companies and regulatory and enforcement agencies, including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), to improve the handling of complaints about e-commerce and goods deliveries.
