Global investor plans US$50 billion investment in Malaysian technology sectors
Kuching, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia were selected for the proposed investment, which would cover AI, new technology and data centres.

Malaysia could receive US$50 billion in technology investment under plans outlined by a global investor, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. The proposal covers artificial intelligence (AI), new technology and data centres in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
Anwar said a recent video conference with the investor included discussion of the plans, with Kuching among the locations chosen. He ranked the proposed investment among the region’s largest and said it could provide better jobs for Malaysians, particularly young people now pursuing their education.
Speaking in Melaka during the Sentuhan Kasih MADANI Programme, Anwar linked continued investor confidence to stable politics, leadership and favourable investment conditions. Harmony across Malaysia’s communities was another strength that could help draw foreign investment, he said.
He also urged Malaysia to build its capabilities in semiconductors, digitalisation and AI. Stronger skills development and workforce training were needed to shift from back-end activities towards higher-value middle- and front-end work, he said.
Anwar added that attracting investment and achieving economic growth must deliver tangible benefits through improved employment opportunities and living standards.
