Malaysia’s benchmark share index climbed 0.45 per cent in early trading on Oct 27, following an overnight rise in US equities. At 9.10 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,611.51, a 7.15-point increase from the previous closing level of 1,604.36.

The benchmark started trading at 1,607.34, up 2.98 points. Across Bursa Malaysia, 320 counters advanced and 83 retreated; 224 recorded no change, 2,266 were not traded and 52 were suspended. Trading volume reached 170.67 million units, with a value of RM82.40 million.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng attributed Wall Street’s recovery to traders anticipating corporate earnings reports. He said foreign selling had weighed on the domestic benchmark, while elevated crude oil prices of US$115 per barrel had kept buying interest weak.

Heavyweights Maybank and CIMB traded at RM10.04 and RM7.16 respectively, each gaining six sen. Public Bank’s three-sen advance brought it to RM4.76, while Tenaga Nasional gained two sen, reaching RM13.30.

Malaysian Pacific Industries recorded the largest gain, trading at RM41.08 after a 50-sen rise. ViTrox Corporation climbed 22 sen, reaching RM10.94. Among declining counters, Kuala Lumpur Kepong traded at RM20.20 after losing 20 sen, while Coastal Contracts slipped five sen, reaching RM1.65.
