Utilities lift FBM KLCI as midday market breadth stays negative

The benchmark added 10.18 points, while 603 counters declined and 350 advanced. Trading value reached RM1.49 billion.

Bursa Malaysia’s benchmark reached 1,654.14 at 12.30 pm on Sept 30, gaining 10.18 points as bargain hunting supported selected heavyweights. Utilities drove the rise in the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI), which had closed previously at 1,643.96.

Tenaga Nasional’s midday price was RM13.04, representing a 32 sen increase. Petronas Gas added 20 sen, reaching RM17.38, while a one sen gain put YTL Corporation at RM2.30.

Losses nevertheless outpaced gains across the broader market: 603 counters declined against 350 that advanced. Another 521 were unchanged, with 1,381 untraded and 95 suspended. Trading involved 1.92 billion shares with a value of RM1.49 billion.

Banking heavyweights were mixed at midday. Maybank traded at RM10.04 after a five sen increase, and CIMB was at RM7.79 after adding one sen. Public Bank slipped two sen, reaching RM4.70. IHH Healthcare gained three sen, taking its price to RM7.90.

Among actively traded counters, Gamuda’s price reached RM5.18 following a 20 sen recovery, while Zetrix AI held at 16.5 sen. Nestle was among the leading gainers, adding RM1.20 and trading at RM90.12.

The biggest fall was recorded by Hengyuan Refining, down 57 sen at RM3.77. Its last traded price exceeded the prescribed price limit, prompting a trading suspension for the remainder of the day.
