Fadillah urges shared responsibility for Malaysia’s green transition
He outlined roles for industry, financiers, researchers and communities, while Arthur Kurup highlighted government policy and financing initiatives.

Malaysia needs participation beyond the federal government to move towards a low-carbon economy, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said on Oct 8. He called for businesses, lenders, researchers, state authorities and communities to share responsibility for the transition.
Fadillah, who also holds the energy transition and water transformation portfolio, was speaking at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre as the 17th International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2026 and Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit (KLSS) 2026 opened.
He said the government’s role was to establish direction and coordinate implementation, with industry contributing investment and innovation. Financial institutions should fund credible projects, researchers should develop locally suitable solutions, and states and communities should be involved as implementation partners.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup likewise urged cooperation across these groups. He said government efforts to strengthen policy and financing included the National Carbon Market Policy, Green Technology Financing Scheme 5.0, Green Investment Tax Allowance and MyHIJAU Mark.
Across 16 years, business leads generated by IGEM exceeded RM86 billion, while the event drew more than 700,000 participants globally.
