ERL seeks more university partnerships to train rail talent
The airport rail operator engaged about 20 temporary contract staff on a specialised train project to give local talent practical experience.

Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) is seeking closer ties with universities to develop young rail technology talent, with chief executive officer Datin Noormah Mohd Noor linking the effort to Malaysia’s longer-term airport rail connectivity needs.
Noormah said university partnerships already support ERL’s training efforts, including the recruitment of interns. For a recent specialised train project involving overseas companies, the operator engaged about 20 temporary contract staff so local talent could learn the processes and gain practical experience.
She was speaking in an interview at the Bernama Mobile Studio during Transport Expo Asia 2026 (TXA 2026), which ran in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 20-22.
Beyond talent development, ERL used the expo to seek cooperation with industry stakeholders, partners and technology providers, Noormah said. The company wanted to explore technologies that could improve its services.
Noormah also called for more passengers to use ERL’s city-centre check-in service when travelling to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). She said the facility was a feature available on only five other airport rail services.
On distribution and promotion, she said ERL works with Tourism Malaysia to explore ways of promoting travel using KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit. The operator also cooperates with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTM) to promote each other’s tickets through their respective platforms.
