EP Manufacturing launches production of two GWM hybrid models in Melaka
Melaka’s government is prepared to upgrade assembly and vehicle-handling facilities to support the company’s future expansion, the chief minister said.

EP Manufacturing Bhd has launched production of the GWM Wey G9 MPV (HEV) and GWM EC15S hybrid SUV in Melaka. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ab Rauf Yusoh said the move is expected to lift manufacturing capacity and generate more high-skilled employment in the state.
Speaking to reporters in Alor Gajah after the launch, Ab Rauf said the models reflected Melaka’s shift from making automotive components towards assembling complete vehicles for domestic and international markets. EPMB executive chairman Hamidon Abdullah also attended the event.
According to Ab Rauf, EPMB’s Pegoh plant assembles vehicles under the SAIC-MG and XPeng brands, alongside four Great Wall Motor (GWM) models. He said the state’s industrial areas, infrastructure, transport connections, skilled workers and growing local supplier network supported its automotive industry.
The state government is prepared to improve facilities for the company’s future expansion, he said. These upgrades would include additional assembly stations and better capabilities for inspecting and delivering vehicles. He also pledged continued support for investment, coordination between government agencies and infrastructure provision.
Separately, Ab Rauf said Melaka has 195 electric vehicle (EV) charging units spread across 95 locations. The state plans to install another 10 units by the end of 2026.
