E-Commerce Bill scheduled for Parliament’s opening meeting in 2027
The proposed legislation aims to strengthen oversight of online transactions and accountability among platforms and sellers.

Parliament will consider the E-Commerce Bill during its opening meeting in 2027, according to Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh. She said an initial draft was ready, with refinements under way ahead of tabling.
At a press conference in Kuantan on Oct 18, Fuziah said Malaysia lacked legislation specifically governing e-commerce. As a result, the ministry frequently negotiates between online entrepreneurs and platform providers or serves as an intermediary.
The Bill’s planned tabling was also announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his Budget 2027 presentation on Oct 9. He said it sought greater accountability from sellers and online platforms.
Fuziah was speaking after the closing of the Retail Access Programme 2026. She said the programme had assisted 1,862 entrepreneurs between 2023 and October, offering training alongside business matching.
Its activities included 21 business matching series and 38 training series, covering 552 stock-keeping units (SKUs) from 103 local brands. Fuziah said participants could present products, learn supermarkets’ criteria and identify routes into retail networks.
