The Digital Ministry will keep revising its artificial intelligence (AI) training modules as it identifies fresh risks, including deepfakes and technology misuse, Minister Gobind Singh Deo told the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 8.

Gobind said AI Malaysia Bhd was undertaking the work. Its AI Safe initiative brings in experts to assess security issues and determine how emerging threats can be prevented. The modules cover technology risks and steps users can take to avoid becoming victims of misuse, he said.

He was answering Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (Perikatan Nasional-Kuala Krai), who asked about safeguards for civil servants and abuses such as voice cloning, fabricated videos and AI-based scams. Gobind said risk awareness was also incorporated into the Executive Digital Leadership Programme and public-sector use of Gemini Workspace.

On skills development, Gobind told Tan Hong Pin (Pakatan Harapan-Bakri) that expanding AI talent, particularly among youths, required cooperation with industry, academic institutions, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education.

He said AI Malaysia was tasked with identifying national talent needs, gathering details of available training modules and checking whether they suited industry requirements and intended participants. The work would also identify gaps where new modules could be developed. The ministry was establishing a structure to enable AI Malaysia to fulfil these responsibilities comprehensively and reach people needing new skills, he added.
