Buying in selected heavyweights kept Bursa Malaysia in positive territory on Oct 9 ahead of Budget 2027’s tabling. At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,607.09, up 6.08 points or 0.38 per cent against the previous close of 1,601.01.

The morning session saw the benchmark trade between 1,600.55 and 1,609.94 after opening at 1,602.94, a gain of 1.93 points. Across the broader market, 478 counters advanced and 469 declined. Another 502 were unchanged, with 1,379 untraded and 13 suspended.

Trading volume reached 2.03 billion units, with a value of RM1.34 billion. Heavyweight buying was concentrated in consumer products and services, telecommunications and media, and industrial products and services.

99 Speed Mart Retail traded at RM3.27 after gaining 15 sen, while CelcomDigi reached RM2.52 with a five sen increase. Press Metal Aluminium climbed seven sen, taking it to RM7.19. Together, the three stocks accounted for 4.32 points of the benchmark’s advance.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said investors were watching Budget 2027 for measures supporting strategic industries and household spending. The brokerage said higher Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) allocations could benefit 99 Speed Mart Retail by potentially increasing spending at value retailers.

Elsewhere among heavyweights, Petronas Gas fell 38 sen, leaving it at RM17.42, while Petronas Chemicals traded at RM4.21 after losing five sen.
