Bursa Malaysia edges higher before Budget 2027 tabling

The benchmark gained 1.14 points in early trading, although declining counters outnumbered advances across the broader market.

Bursa Malaysia began trading on a firmer footing on Oct 9 ahead of the Budget 2027 presentation, as investors watched for measures targeting strategic industries and household spending. The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) reached 1,602.15 at 9.16 am, up 1.14 points.

The benchmark had started at 1,602.94, an opening increase of 1.93 points, against Thursday’s closing level of 1,601.01. Across the market, 233 counters declined and 216 advanced. Another 284 were unchanged, while 2,095 were untraded and 13 suspended. Trading volume totalled 326.93 million units, with a value of RM155.22 million.

Among heavyweight stocks, Maybank reached RM9.81 and Public Bank RM4.56, each gaining one sen. Tenaga Nasional was two sen higher at RM12.92, while IHH Healthcare added seven sen to reach RM7.95. CIMB slipped three sen to RM7.23.

Sector indices were mixed. Financial Services dropped 30.91 points, ending at 18,347.54, while Plantation lost 12.29 points to reach 8,857.50. Industrial Products and Services was down 0.11 of a point at 178.72. Energy moved higher by 4.37 points to 843.71.
