Bank gains support Bursa Malaysia’s mid-morning advance
Decliners outnumbered gainers 488 to 413, with trading volume at 2.23 billion shares valued at RM907.43 million.

Buying in selected heavyweights, particularly financial services stocks, kept Bursa Malaysia higher on Oct 5, Bernama reported. At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,632.10, a rise of 1.23 points against the preceding Friday’s close of 1,630.87.
The benchmark opened at 1,633.42, gaining 2.55 points. Public Bank, Malayan Banking and Hong Leong Bank together contributed 3.53 points to the composite index. Their shares were priced at RM4.70, RM10.08 and RM22.86, respectively, following increases of four sen, six sen and 22 sen.
Across the broader market, 488 counters declined and 413 advanced. Prices were unchanged for 454 counters, while 1,418 remained untraded and 24 were suspended. Shares traded totalled 2.23 billion, representing RM907.43 million in value.
Other heavyweight gains included five sen for 99 Speed Mart, taking it to RM3.11, and three sen for Press Metal Aluminium, which traded at RM7.20. YTL Power International was at RM5.60 after an eight sen decline, while Petronas Chemicals lost seven sen and traded at RM4.14.
Sector indices were mixed in the mid-morning update. The Financial Services Index stood at 19,148.14, up 107.63 points. The Energy Index was at 831.68 after losing 1.35 points, while the Plantation Index registered 8,998.74, down 57.81 points.
