Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) said Budget 2027’s RM1.7 billion allocation for the financing needs of targeted groups would help strengthen its role in Malaysia’s microfinance sector. Acting chief executive Mujibburrahman Abd Rashid identified youth, gig workers, hawkers and vulnerable communities as beneficiaries.

Mujibburrahman also welcomed RM270 million in financing to help gig workers expand their businesses and pursue first-home ownership. He said BSN would continue offering financial solutions suited to their needs.

He said the bank would judge the initiatives’ success by their contribution to entrepreneurs’ business growth, income and financial stability, rather than solely by financing disbursements. Access to banking should make a meaningful difference to people’s lives, he added.

BSN said it would keep using branches across the country, banking agents and other channels, including mobile banking, to reach more Malaysians, especially rural and remote communities. Mujibburrahman said continued cooperation between financial institutions and the government was important for turning the budget initiatives into economic opportunities and better well-being.
