A dedicated allocation for young Malaysians could be announced in Budget 2027, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim indicated on Oct 3. He was speaking at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, where he officiated the Youth Economic Forum 2026.

The budget is due to be tabled on Oct 9. Anwar, who holds the finance portfolio as well, said he had considered requests and concerns from young people, particularly the cost of education and assistance needed by students in low-income households.

He said some university students were going hungry while trying to study, while others had to take on debt because they lacked funds. He pledged to address these concerns and make an announcement during his budget presentation.

Anwar also said he had devoted hours to discussions with scholars and scientists about how Malaysia could avoid falling behind. He described young people as central to the country's future and said his role included improving education, enabling exploration of new disciplines and supporting proficiency in multiple languages.
