The Digital Ministry put estimated investment in 27 data centre projects approved under the Data Centre Task Force (DCTF) at RM225.97 billion, covering approvals up to July 2026.

In its state breakdown, the ministry listed Johor with 16 projects, Selangor with 10 and Negeri Sembilan with one. Operations have started at one facility; construction is continuing at the remainder.

The ministry forecasts 4,053 jobs from the developments. These include 3,523 high-skilled roles spanning networking, cybersecurity, electrical and mechanical engineering, and the operation and maintenance of data centres. It expects 89.21 per cent of these high-skilled jobs to go to Malaysians.

DCTF-approved projects must have local content of at least 30 per cent, the ministry said. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) tracks implementation and compliance through mandatory project implementation reports submitted at six-month intervals.

The ministry also said Talent Corporation Malaysia is developing a Data Centre Facilities Management Programme. The programme is intended to train local participants to operate and maintain data centres, supporting technology and skills transfers.

The figures were provided in the ministry’s written response to Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (PN-Kuala Langat), whose question concerned state-level approvals and economic spillover benefits for local communities.
