Daiso Malaysia Group Sdn Bhd opened its RM1.2 billion Global Distribution Centre (GDC) in Pulau Indah on Nov 5, establishing a base for its international logistics operations. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated at the opening at Taman Perindustrian Samudera.

Covering 133,666 sq m (about 1.4 million sq ft), the centre is larger than Daiso’s Hiroshima facility in Japan. It will coordinate logistics for 27 countries across the Middle East and Asia, and is set to handle over 1,000 containers at a time, carrying household goods, stationery and lifestyle products.

Daiso also exchanged a memorandum of understanding with PKT Logistics (M) Sdn Bhd covering integrated warehouse management and regional freight forwarding. The collaboration includes closer integration with domestic haulage operations and training local talent for specialised supply chain engineering roles.

Anwar said goods handled and repacked at Pulau Indah would soon be shipped to destinations including Dubai, Manila and São Paulo. He said the government prioritised investments offering higher-paying jobs, stronger local capabilities, domestic supplier links and technology transfer, rather than headline investment figures alone.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said his ministry was accelerating digital documentation and clearance through the Malaysia Maritime Single Window, with the aim of reducing port turnaround times.
