Approvals under the data centre task force (DCTF) reached 27 projects by July 2026, with investment estimated at RM225.97 billion, the Digital Ministry said in a written parliamentary response.

Johor has 16 approved projects, followed by Selangor with 10 and Negeri Sembilan with one. Construction is continuing at all but one of the data centres, which has started operations, according to the ministry.

The ministry forecast 4,053 jobs from the projects. Of these, 3,523 would be high-skilled roles covering cybersecurity, networking, electrical and mechanical engineering, and the operation and maintenance of data centres. It expects Malaysians to hold 89.21% of those high-skilled roles.

DCTF approvals carry a local content threshold of at least 30%. The ministry said the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) checks implementation and compliance through project implementation reports, which are required every six months.

Talent Corporation Malaysia is also developing a programme focused on managing data centre facilities. The ministry said it aims to strengthen transfers of technology and skills by training local participants to operate and maintain data centres.

The response addressed a question by Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (PN-Kuala Langat), who asked about approvals by state and economic benefits for surrounding communities.
