Selangor raises annual investment goal to RM90 billion

Investment approvals reached RM70 billion in the first half of 2026, providing the basis for the higher target.

Selangor’s investment target for 2026 stands at RM90 billion following a previous-year tally of RM80 billion, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said. He announced the goal at a community programme in Bangi on Oct 24.

Amirudin said RM70 billion worth of investments approved during the opening half of 2026 supported the decision to lift the annual target. He said measures to make the state more competitive and improve its investment environment would help it continue attracting foreign and domestic investors.

The state’s priorities include industries with high value added, high-technology sectors and the digital economy. Amirudin had also linked its investment performance to regular missions abroad, with destinations including South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Germany and France.

According to Amirudin, Selangor accounts for 26.5 per cent of Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product. He estimated the state economy at RM460 billion, with its value expected to rise to RM500 billion within the next two years.

He said attracting investment and generating employment must be accompanied by help for residents facing higher living costs. The state government was also reviewing programmes to find shortcomings and improve services, seeking to ensure that development benefits people of every ethnic background.
