David Popen Announced as New CEO of Monroe Harding

Monroe Harding, the Nashville nonprofit foster care organization, has named David Popen as their new CEO.

Monroe Harding, the Nashville nonprofit foster care organization, has named David Popen as their new CEO.

“We couldn’t be more excited about introducing David as the new CEO,” said John Horst, Board Chair of Monroe Harding. “David brings decades of executive experience in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations with a keen focus on strategic planning, fund and board development and community engagement. David has the experience and energy to lead the organization to realize the potential for growth in all of our programs.”

“How we take care of our children defines who we are as a community,” said Popen. “As a father of two, it hits home for me when a child doesn’t have the stable home life that most of us had. Monroe Harding has provided that stability and family environment for 125 years and I’m excited to carry that mission forward.”

Prior to joining Monroe Harding, Popen served as Principal and COO for two national for-profit fundraising consulting firms, guiding organizations through major funding initiatives and special projects, raising over $600 million in funding. Previously, Popen served as CEO of the Arthritis Foundation, Southeast Region and as Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Sumner Regional Health Systems.

Popen earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Colgate University, Hamilton, New York. He earned a cum laude law degree from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, and subsequently completed economic development studies at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky, and graduated from the Chamber Institute for Organization Management at University of Delaware, Newark. Popen also studied southern history and culture at the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississippi. He also has completed several community leadership programs.
