Mar 22, 2018

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Greenpeace says several major household brands including Hershey and Johnson & Johnson have failed to disclose where they get their palm oil from despite vows to stop buying from companies that cut down tropical forests to grow the widely used commodity. The environmental group said Monday that in January it asked 16 major brands to reveal their suppliers of palm oil, which is mainly grown in Indonesia and Malaysia and used in a slew of consumer products from snacks to cosmetics. Indonesia faces challenge to seizure of yacht wanted by US

Mar 22, 2018

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Indonesia's seizure of a luxury yacht wanted as part of a U.S. probe into the alleged multibillion-dollar theft of funds from a Malaysian state investment company is being challenged by the vessel's owner, police said Monday. National police deputy director of economic crimes Daniel Silitonga said police haven't handed the yacht over to the U.S. since its Feb. 28 seizure because they're waiting for a court hearing after lawyers for the owner of the Cayman Islands-registered Equanimity began a legal challenge. "Until now we are still awaiting the summons for a hearing," he said. "We are facing...

The two are the only suspects in custody, though prosecutors have said four North Koreans who fled the country were...

SHAH ALAM, Malaysia — Malaysia's opposition coalition has pledged to axe an unpopular good and services tax and reopen investigations into a multibillion-dollar financial scandal linked to Prime Minister Najib Razak if it wins the next elections. The Hope Alliance, led by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, also promised to clip the powers of the prime minister, revive fuel subsidies and a slew of economic reforms as part of its manifesto for polls due by August but widely expected in the second quarter. In announcing the coalition's manifesto late Thursday, Mahathir said the opposition has been labelled "government-in-waiting" as he...
